Have you ever looked at yourself through other people’s eyes?
Of course, looking at our bare selves requires much courage, as facing our flaws is a reminder of the work in need. I am my own worst critic and constantly look in for improvement on a regular basis. I tend to look for my reflection in my “soul mirror” more often than in any other means.
Due to the consistency of my “checking in”, I made a point to also take a deeper look at my reflection in others’ eyes; kinda like standing still in a store window being observed, seeing how the outside looks in!
I consider myself as one of the luckiest people on this earth as I’ve learned that the reflections surrounding me are the result of the choices I have made when standing at different crossroads of life: making decisions for myself and in consideration of others, which at times have not been easy but they were the right thing to do. I followed my golden rule and value I stand by strictly: treat others as you would like others to treat you.
No one said it was going to be easy but it’s definitely worth the hike!
Choosing to travel the tougher roads, avenues, and alleys with more bumps, hardships, pains, heartbreaks will only lead you to the higher grounds.
My inner peace and calm today is a reflection of what I see not only in my own mirror but also through the eyes around me.
Not everyone around us chooses the “non-asphalted” journey consisting of overlooked steps as communication, overcoming fears and obstacles, forgiveness, apologizing, stepping up towards goals and dreams, walking in someone else’s shoes trying to understand their point of view, and so on.
Growth takes place when you are able to see yourself clearly from within and thereafter, from the outside looking in. If you like what you see in the eyes of those in your world, you are well on your way but if you are disappointed and dissatisfied with that “mirror” and avoid looking in, then you are due for some changes.
The New Year is upon us yet again and many of you are setting your goals and resolutions. I am not a “New Year’s Resolution” person but I resolute and reflect on my actions throughout the year. Make reflection a priority. It paves the road to a shiny bright mirror.
Thank you for looking at me with such loving and caring eyes. Wishing you all a very joyous and fruitful New Year!
“If the mirror reflects your blemished image, don’t break it. Break yourself, breaking the mirror is amiss” – Rumi
