Do you remember a period in your life when something went wrong and shortly after a “domino effect” took over, which anywhere you turned another downfall awaited you?
Well, I’ve been caught in such “effect” for the last 6 months and I think I’m at the tail end of it now.
I’ve managed to come to the point of telling you about it by not scooping down to comparing myself with others or reaching for perfection!
I have to be honest. It’s been tough.
If you can find the courage to be as honest as you can be with yourself and others about your challenges, there are many ways back to living the good life in full throttle.
Don’t ever doubt YOUR truth.
It gets dark at times, and sometimes pitch-dark.
BELIEVE that it is another temporary period by not giving in to the fear of “What if this never goes away?”.
Let’s call the low bumps “temps”; because they are just that!
One thing you can be sure of is that change always happens. You can’t stop change.
While riding the lows, I still worked out, spent time with friends and family, and worked on new projects while wrapping up the old ones.
I was busy keeping myself excited about life.
No matter how many problems you face you are the one in charge of YOUR life.
My advice to you, when you hit the lows, is to keep one foot in the door. If you can’t do anything else, do a couple of things that you’ve always been passionate about.
Keep one foot in.
If you can’t do it alone, just ask for help.
Those who care enough will notice, help you overcome your challenges and help you stand back up on your feet.
The main keys to getting back in the game are simple: honesty all the way around, reaching out for a little assistance when you need it, and believing that it is a temporary state.
There may be times when you might think you don’t have it in you to fight anymore but you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
You will find the energy and you will rise up for the less fortunate.
Here’s a small tale to help you relate:
I had just returned from one of my morning runs.
It was a tough one as I had no energy to get out of bed, let alone go for a run!
But I motivated myself to go for it by reminding myself it’s a “temp” one.
After the run, I usually walk around for a bit to cool down and stretch before I go back to my place.
For the past few weeks, I had seen this thin older man cleaning the windows of a store in the same area but never paid close attention to him as he was very focused on his work.
He was there again.
As I was walking behind him, he turned around, came forward and said: “Wow! You really keep at it on a regular basis, don’t you?”.
He shocked the heck out of me!
How could someone you don’t even know, pay such close attention to your actions and routines? Especially when you’re not on your “A-game”?
I replied: “Thank you. I try to do my best. It all goes back to how much you love and believe in yourself. It’s the only way you can recognize the same love in others. You definitely don’t wanna lose sight of that no matter what life deals you.”
He nodded in agreement, smiled and said: “Yes, that’s right! Yes!”.
As he began walking back to the windows he was still nodding, saying yes, and smiling.
His stance was a bit different.
His shoulders stretched back, chest pushed out, chin held up higher.
I don’t know what he took from that moment but I can tell you about my breakthrough from it:
When you’re in the darkness, searching for a light to guide you out to your new path, make more aware choices with your actions.
There is someone watching you wondering if you’ll be the one who sheds a ray of light on their darkness.
If you can’t get up for yourself, do it for another; even if it’s someone you don’t know.
Someone is definitely watching and learning.
Don’t let the lessons meant for you to teach, go to waste.
